FAQ

What does Calalarm do?

Calalarm adds a notification with a sound of your choice to all existing calendar alerts. It syncs with the iOS Calendar database so it sets alarms for all calendar apps that use this database. Calalarm sets local notifications, which means you can switch to another app or lock your screen and still get alerted.

What is the difference between Calalarm and Supercal?

  • Supercal uses the iOS editor and Event Details (similar to what the iOS calendar uses), Calalarm uses its own dedicated editor and Event Details.
  • Calalarm can Snooze, Nag and set multiple alerts.
  • Calalarm contains an Overdue list.
  • Calalarm comes with sounds and can set Notifications and sounds by Calendar.
  • Calalarm contains a Watch OS app.
  • Supercal supports travel time.
  • Supercal can easily add, view and save attachments.

What happens to my existing events when I install Calalarm or Supercal?

They remain as they are. Both Calalarm and Supercal are built on top of the iOS calendar database and show all its stored events, including event details such as alerts and notes. When you were previously using the built-in calendar app your entries will now also appear in Calalarm and Supercal. Note: You will need to activate Calalarm so that it can set its alarms.

What do I need to do when I come from the old app?

Delete the old app from your device. Install the new app, and all your Events and their alerts, notes, etc. (Calendar data) will now appear in the new Calalarm / Supercal app.

You may want to customise your Calalarm / Supercal Settings. Both are all new apps and we do not store your old Settings due to our privacy policy.
Enable "Month view classic" to show greyed out dates of previous and upcoming months.
notifications>

In Calalarm Settings you can now choose how the app opens when tapping a notification.
And whether you want the Nag to stop when clearing the notification.

What happens if I edit events in my built-in Calendar or Calalarm or Supercal?

Both the built-in Calendar, Calalarm or Supercal access the same database that stores all your events from the various calendars. Even iCloud syncs this database with calendars on your Mac/PC. When you edit events or alerts in one calendar app it will reflect these changes in all calendar apps.

Why do Calalarm / Supercal need access to my Contacts?

  • If you share calendars, Calalarm / Supercal also needs access to your Contacts.
  • To edit and save events with invitees.
  • To show age information of Contacts' Birthdays.
  • You can directly phone, email, sms, message and edit details of Contacts that appear as Birthday or invites/attendees when you grant Calalarm / Supercal access to Contacts.

Grant (Full) Access to your Contacts via the privacy settings: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Contacts > Calalarm / Supercal.

How are Time Zones managed?

Calalarm / Supercal follow the system Time Zone settings (iOS Settings > General > Date & Time) to display its dates and time. Events have their own Time Zone that you can edit. So if your device Date & Time are set to Amsterdam and you want to schedule an event in Los Angeles time, when adding /editing an event choose that Time Zone. Both Time Zones will then be displayed in the event details.

The Floating Time Zone event will always happen at the same time regardless of the Time Zone it is in (you may need to restart the app after changing the Time Zone of your device).

Time Zone Override

You can override the system Time Zone setting so you can display Calalarm / Supercal in the time zone of your choice.

  1. In Calalarm Settings / Supercal Settings tap Time Zone Override.
  2. Enable Time Zone Override.
  3. Tap Time Zone, search for a location (like Amsterdam, for example), then tap the location.
Note: Time Zone Override only changes the time zone shown in the Calalarm / Supercal app.

Snooze and Nag

How do the Nag and Snooze work?

For each alert of an event with Nag you will receive a notification that will repeat every minute/hour until dismissed. The Nag follows the default value you choose in the Calalarm Settings. You can override this default per event by choosing another Nag option for that particular event. Calalarm will remember the override even if you change the default.

Stop a nagging notification
  • Tap on the notification. Or choose "Stop Nag", "Snooze" or "Snooze & Move" from the notification menu. If you snooze this alert it will nag again when it fires.
  • Go to Overdue > tap "Stop Nag" or snooze the alert.
  • Change the start time or alerts of the event.

************
When you Snooze a notification, the notification will be repeated after the Snooze interval. The Snooze interval has a default value that you can set In Calalarm settings (Snooze > enter a value). Or you can use the "Snooze & Move" screen, where you can set the interval you require at that moment.

Snoozed events are displayed in "Overdue" (tap the Z in the bottom Toolbar), where you can change or cancel a Snooze.

Note: each event can contain only one Snooze.

Cancel a Snooze
  • Go to Overdue > tap the Z button to bring up the Snooze & Move screen > tap Off.

Note: Changing the start time or alerts of an event, will cancel its Snooze.

************
Nag and Snooze do not sync between iOS devices.

Snooze alerts or Stop the Nag from Lock and Home screen

Tap a notification. This will open the app stop the Nag of this alert.
By default Calalarm will open the Snooze & Move screen. You can change this in Calalarm settings.

Touch and hold the notification to bring up the menu:

Clearing the Notification does not stop its Nag. You can change this in Calalarm settings.

Snoozed alerts will nag again after snoozing.

Can I have more Nag options?

Unfortunately at the moment Apple does not give this possibility to third party apps. You can easily set multiple (nagging) alerts though.

Alerts and Notifications

NOTE: Calalarm will trigger the sync with iCloud, Google, Exchange, etc. when it is brought to the foreground from the background.

Immediately stop the Alarm sound

  • Press one of the side buttons or Home button, put in Silent mode or unlock to stop the sound.
  • Clear the Notification, swipe it to the left.

Error: cannot save event

  • You cannot edit events that belong to a subscribed calendar, you are an invitee or shared calendar where you have no rights.
  • If Calalarm does not have access to Contacts, it will not be able to edit and save events with invitees.
  • This message may appear after updating to iOS 18.4 when trying to save changes to existing repeating events (created before the update). This is an iOS 18.4 issue. Currently the easiest solution is to duplicate or create the event again and delete future occurrences of the old one.

In Notifications enable: Allow Notifications, Time Sensitive Notificatiosn, Lock Sreen, Notification Centre, Banners, Sounds.

  • Notifications are muted. In Lock Screen or Notification Center swipe left and tap Options.
  • Are your Calendars visible? Alarms of hidden calendars will not fire.
  • Does the application you sync with have the same Time Zone as your device.
